Quark takes part in the design of the 500 MW Stoneshield data center in Cantabria Spain

XDC Properties, a subsidiary of the Stoneshield Capital Group, has announced a new project with the Government of Cantabria, known as the 'Altamira Project'. The initiative involves the development of a technology campus that will house a 500MW high-capacity data center, representing a €3.6 billion investment in the region, the largest in its history, and in whose design and development Quark is participating. The project will boost the economic, technological and social development of Cantabria. Development is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2025, with the aim of starting operations in 2032.

The Altamira project will consist of 12 adjacent data center modules of 40 MW each, with 75,000 square meters of photovoltaic panels to supply the campus with renewable energy. The project will be developed in a modular and phased manner, following the development and growth of the end customers, to facilitate implementation and provide flexibility to meet their needs.

More than 1,500 direct jobs will be created during the construction phase. During the operational phase, more than 1,450 jobs will be created, of which 350 direct and 1,100 indirect. The Altamira project has been declared a Strategic Business Project by the Government of Cantabria due to the high level of economic investment and the creation of quality jobs, the commitment to sustainability and the reduction of CO2 emissions, and the objective of transforming the selected area into a technological infrastructure of European reference
